BARNEVELD, THE NETHERLANDS - A new online trade platform offers poultry farmers the opportunity to sell their eggs quickly and easily to packing stations in The Netherlands and abroad. EggsTrader - as the platform is called - supports both parties in closing the deal.

Poultry farmers can offer eggs on EggsTrader for a complete laying period, as well as separate parties on the spot market. Packing stations can view the offer in different regions. The location and details of the poultry farm can only be viewed when an agreement is made.

In order to ensure that the system is reliable and secure, poultry farmers as well as packing stations are subjected to an accreditation process before they gain access. Making use of EggsTrader is free of charge, and there are no subscription costs. Only when an agreement is made, EggsTrader will charge a small fee in order to cover the costs of the platform and the transactions.

New generation

EggsTrader is founded by internet entrepeneur André Hoogendam, and poultry
business owner Jarrin Snetselaar. “During the previous decades there have been many innovations in the poultry sector, but mostly in the area of housing. The trade is still fairly traditional. However, we've noticed that new generation poultry farmers are searching for new trading opportunities to increase their market ”, says Snetselaar.

With EggsTrader, Snetselaar and Hoogendam are meeting this need. “Most poultry farmers sell their eggs to two or three traders. Through EggsTrader they can easily
offer eggs against the best possible price at that time to different packing stations ”, according to Hoogendam. “This allows them to spread riscs and increase their efficiency. On the other hand, EggsTrader offers packing stations the possibility to diversify their purchase.”

Globalisation

In order to increase the market for poultry farmers, EggsTrader is opening its platform to packing stations from other European countries. “Most poultry farmers hesitate to deal directly with German traders, for instance. By fully facilitating the transaction - including the contract, the assurance of swift payment and mediation in any disputes - we take away those barriers”, states Snetselaar.

You can compare it to Airbnb, adds Hoogendam. “Through Airbnb, home owners can offer accommodation to an international audience. Whether you want to rent a villa in Spain, or an appartment in Hong Kong, you can easily find it through a platform such as Airbnb. Similarly, EggsTrader operates intuitively and in a user friendly way. Just any poultry farmer will be able to do business this way.”

Going Live

Even before the platform was officially launched, plenty of poultry farmers as well as packing stations were enthusiastic. Based on the reactions from the market, Hoogendam and Snetselaar expect that EggsTrader will grow quickly from this point. In the mean time, the two business owners continue to develop the platform, working well as a team.

Hoogendam started his internet business in 1999. He was one of the founders of the succesful ticket platform Skelper, which is now part of the English SeatWave. Today he works project-based for a number of multinationals. Being rooted in the poultry sector, Snetselaar is the one who contributes his expertise and knowledge of egg trading.
The young business owner is involved in various innovative projects within the sector, including the introduction of the health egg Leifde.
